Robertson celebrates Covid-19 virus with new oil painting series; "CORRIDORS"
The About the Artist:
With a recent diagnosis of Covid 19, Darrek had to stay away from all professional and private commitments for a week. Isolating himself led to a golden opportunity, work on a professional hobby, oil painting. At age 43, Darrek Robertson became a college student once again, this time at Columbus College of Art & Design, (CCAD). With a Dean scholarship, Robertson was able to learn the fundamentals of sketching, drawing, color theory, and painting from some of the best core studies professors in the nation, including Earnest Viveiros, and applied that to his Industrial Design BFA. The oil paintings hung at the Short North Tavern located at 674 North Night Street through March 4th, 2022.
This inspired Darrek to spend a week, constantly working on his painting skills. His new series of oil paintings, CORRIDORS, has opened the doors of color and how they play off of each other. Each CORRIDOR leads us on a different pathway, with different emotional and life connections. Diversity in color and space, each one playing closely off the others. All emblematic of maybe a day of life, a relationship, or even people in your life. CORRIDORS does not stop at the end of the canvas, they continue as we continue as we continue to explore our own personal view points, and perspectives.
Robertson's last show in the Short North area of Columbus, OH. was back in the early 1990's, and were all hand printed black and white photographs. This photographer has found a new pathway, corridor, to share his soul and passion for positive colorful energy. These paintings share a common theme amongst humans, getting from here to there. Each looking slightly different. These diverse pipelines, tubes, gateways share the importance of difference, and the individuality of being a one of a kind.
